Operate and monitor flue gas (NOx) mitigation systems
Assessment tool
Version 1.0
Issue Date: May 2024
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required for the operation, inspection and monitoring of flue gas (NOx) mitigation systems. Flue gas (NOx) mitigation systems are typically used by coal, gas, oil and biomass fired oil and gas fired gas turbines and combined cycle power generation facilities.
Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) arepoisonousgases derived from nitrogen and oxygen combustion under high pressure and temperatures.NOxis composed of nitric oxide (NO), and a smaller percentage of morepoisonousnitrogen dioxide (NO2).
Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan work, carry out operation of flue gas (NOx) mitigation system, test flue gas (NOx) mitigation operation, analyse flue gas (NOx) mitigation system faults, inspect and monitor flue gas (NOx) mitigation system and complete all documentation. Individuals will, in general, work under supervision, in a power generation facility as an operator.
Power generation plant operators are typically trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to work.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Note: Workplace practice
The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.
